Health Advice on Eating Fish You Catch
Residents in the Syracuse area were fishing in areas where the fish population had elevated levels of mercury and the New York State Department of Health needed to spread the word about unsafe fish consumption. Our goal with this was to inform Burmese and Karen residents of the dangers of fishing in waters where the fish were contaminated.
Storyboarding Process
With a relatively low budget, we were able to create a comprehensible and candid video that clarified safe fishing practices across Western New York. The family illustrations featured in the video were edited from stock illustrations to better suit the demographic of the project. I then went on to create the background and extra assets to complete the story.
By using the color coded maps provided in NYSDOH booklets, local signage, and this video, residents would be able to understand which bodies of water were safe to fish from and which were not.
